3 Days 2 Night Outing in Ulu Muda

Experiencing the Wilds of " Ulu Muda "
Located at the eastern frontier of Kedah bordering the Thai province of Yala, this 160,000ha lowland dipterocarp forest is home to most of Malaysia's large mammals. It is home to 9 of the 10 Hornbill species found in Malaysia including the very rare and globally threatened Plain-pouched Hornbill.

Our journey will start at the Muda Jetty (old name was kopam jetty) of Muda Lake some 150km from Penang. A one and a half hour on a traditional long-tailed wooden boat ride across the lake and up the Muda River will take us to Earth Lodge. Some of the activities you will experience include visits to salt licks, overnight at a wildlife hide, swimming and frolicking in cold forest streams, visit to a newly discovered limestone hill and its mysterious caves and watching birds and other wildlife. You can also just laze around the lodge grounds listening to nature's jungle music and being awakened by the call of the White-handed Gibbons.

Schedule :-
Day One Meet Muda Lake Jetty (10am)
Boat ride to Earth Lodge at Kuala Labua (approx. 1 1/2hrs)
Settle in, etc
Lunch
Visit salt licks (Sira Bongok, Sira Keladi)
Tea
Free and easy
Dinner
Optional: Overnight at wildlife hide
Optional: Night walk
Day Two Breakfast
Trek to Bukit Labu (2 hours)
Visit caves at Bukit Labu
Lunch by the river
Trek back to camp
Tea
Birding, free and easy
Dinner
Optional: Overnight at wildlife hide
Optional: Night walk
Day Three Birding, free and easy
Breakfast
Visit Sira Ayer Hangat
Pack
Leave Earth Lodge by Boat
Visit Tualang Tree where wild honey is collected (if available)
Back at Muda Lake Jetty (approx 2pm)

Trip Detail :-
Date : 26th ~ 28th November 2011 ( Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday)
* Meet at Muda Lake Jetty on 26th Nov at 10am for departure
Duration : 3 days, 2 nights
Cost : RM420 per person (price ex Muda Lake Jetty)
Includes : Boat, all meals, drinks, cabin with attached bathroom, guide and cook
* Two person per room or three person per room also can
* Dorms where up to 8 people can stay at one time
* All with attached batchrooms

Payment / Booking :-
This is first come first serve basic, so we need to book early
Booking due date : 16th October 2011
Booking fee 50% : RM210, balance can pay on departure

Documents required :-
1. Scanned or digital photo of IC (front and back)
2. Digital colour passport size photo (You can use your camera to photograph)

Long / Macro / Wide Lens
Covered shoes with good grip
Torch lights with spare batteries
Insect repellent
Sun block
Refillable water bottle (throw away water bottles strictly not allowed)
Leech socks
Hat
Poncho
Swimming gear
Sandals/flip-flops and bath towel.
Some water proof or big plastic bag
If you have a medical condition, please inform us and do ensure that you bring enough medication.

I would love to go, but have already booked for Bali from 23 Oct to 27th, not to bird, but to buys things for my Bukit Tinggi Bungalow. I also have visitors from Australia from 11 to 13 October, so doubt I can go anywhere else. Thanks nelson. Please let me know what you find there so that I will know whether it is a good place to visit.
